What is gold-filled jewellery?
Gold-filled jewellery has a thick layer of real gold mechanically bonded to a base metal — typically brass. Unlike gold-plated jewellery, which uses a very thin layer that can chip or tarnish, gold-filled has 100 times more gold content. It's durable, long-lasting and safe for sensitive skin.
Does gold-filled jewellery tarnish?
With proper care, gold-filled jewellery should not tarnish. It's designed to last for years of daily wear. The key is keeping it away from harsh chemicals, saltwater and perfume — and cleaning it occasionally with a soft cloth.
Daily Care Tips
Put it on last.
Apply perfume, moisturiser and sunscreen before putting on your jewellery. Chemicals in beauty products can dull the finish over time.
Take it off before swimming in the ocean.
Saltwater and chlorine can affect gold-filled jewellery with prolonged exposure. Short exposure is fine — just rinse and dry after.
Store it right.
Keep your pieces in a soft pouch or jewellery box, away from direct sunlight and humidity.
